School in Action - 4/5B

WELCOME Welcome to 4/5 B!

I am Emma Callaway and I will be teaching your child this year. For some of you, this will be the second year we have worked together. I am looking forward to a fantastic year of growth and learning. There are lots of amazing things planned for both in the classroom and out.

Our weekly timetable will include the usual Reading, Writing and Mathematics sessions. We will also use computers to enhance the learning and improve ICT skills. What is new for this group is that we are doing Rotations one afternoon a week. On a Monday the students are going to Mr Toffolon for ICT and Mrs Lewis for Science. On a Tuesday afternoon, the students then complete the rotation activities by taking part in a Health session with me. In Term Three and Four, this will change with students then going to Mrs Murray, Mr Nolan and Miss Benoit. We are also doing Sport Rotations on a Friday afternoon with students in Grades 3-5.

When you come into our classroom, you will see posters on our walls that say ‘Choose Kind’ and ‘Aim High’. We have adapted these as our class motto, along with still valuing the 3Bs of ‘Be Respectful, Be Safe and Be Responsible’.

SPELLING– This year Gray Street is trialing Spelling Mastery. All students from Grades 3-6 were given a pre-test to make sure they were placed in the correct group. These groups meet four times a week for 30 minutes. There will no longer be weekly spelling lists going home.

HOMEWORK– At this stage, the expected homework is Daily Home Reading (at least 3 nights is the minimum) and working on the Multiplication Tables. For those students that were given a diary, they are to record their home reading in this. Other students may use a small notebook or diary they may have. Sometimes students will have a homework task for a specific subject or project they can complete at home.

SPORT UNIFORM DAYS -  Tuesday & Friday

BRAINFOOD - Every day we have a brain break. Students are allowed to bring fruit or veg during this time.

DRINK BOTTLES  - Students are allowed to bring drink bottles with water into the classroom.

HOW TO CONTACT ME - If you need to contact me, feel free to send an email to the school, give the school a call or come and see me between 8.30-8.50am as I am on duty after school.
